Operators criticize L2 experience as poor! Vitalik Buterin: We are building the future, no need to defend the current shortcomings
Ethereum Layer2 experience criticized, community heated discussion
Recently, Camila Russo, the founder of the DeFi media platform The Defiant, posted on social media X, criticizing the user experience of Ethereum's Layer2. She said:
If you are a user of Crypto Assets, the experience is very bad. What's worse, this experience is painful. If you are a Newbie... this is simply unacceptable, completely unusable.
Russo emphasizes that trading on Ether often requires switching between multiple Layer2s. For example, users may mint tokens on one on-chain, participate in an airdrop on another on-chain, and receive stablecoins on different on-chains. She points out that it is not enough to use only one chain or have multiple chains within a single ecosystem; seamless interaction across all Layer2s and the Mainnet is essential for usability.

In addition, although technical solutions such as Account Abstraction have already existed, Russo stated that these technologies have mostly not been implemented by Wallet and protocol, and their impact on user experience is limited. Russo believes that improving the user experience of Ethereum requires coordination across the ecosystem, which is already very difficult. If everyone deceives themselves into saying that 'the situation is not that bad', it will become impossible to achieve this goal.
V God's strong response: focus on the future, no need to defend the status quo
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin responded early Tuesday. He said that when people feel "powerless" to build the future, they tend to tend to justify existing deficiencies. But he stressed: "We are building the future." He cites his previous article on the cross-Layer 2 interoperability roadmap, noting that there is no need to justify current inadequacies.
Vitalik believes that the Ethereum community should focus on future development rather than getting caught up in defending the status quo. He emphasizes that achieving simpler cross-Layer2 interactions requires the collaboration of technology and the community to establish consistent standards and ultimately create a consistent experience between Ethereum's Layer1 and Layer2.
He said, "If we take Layer2 as part of Ether, we need to make the Layer2 ecosystem feel like using a unified Ether ecosystem."

Cross Layer2 Interoperability is a key focus for future development
Vitalik elaborated on the plan to improve cross-Layer2 interoperability, aiming to make the Ethereum ecosystem feel more unified by reducing reliance on centralized elements and simplifying Cross-Chain Interaction transactions. He proposed multiple solutions, including standardizing chain-specific Addresses, payment requests, and Secret Key storage Wallets, allowing assets to move more seamlessly between Layer2 while dropping Gas fees.
In his previous blog post, 'The Surge,' he further discussed these ideas, which is the second article in a series of six articles this month about the future possibilities of the Ethereum protocol. Vitalik points out that the roadmap centered around Rollup will continue to be the network's primary scalability strategy but still faces unique challenges. He emphasizes the need to increase transaction speed to 100,000 per second, including Layer1 and Layer2.

Vitalik said, "Our mission is to complete the roadmap centered around Rollup, solving these problems while maintaining the stability and decentralization features of Ethereum Layer1." He also discussed further development of data availability sampling and other solutions for expanding the Ethereum base layer.
Vitalik's response and plans demonstrate the Ethereum team's vision for the future, and call on the community to work together to overcome existing challenges and achieve a better user experience.
