Jack Dorsey's Block introduces a modular Bitcoin mining machine that requires no tools.

Block Inc., Jack Dorsey's Bitcoin company, launched Proto Rig – a modular mining machine – and Proto Fleet – an open-source management platform, at the Core Scientific facility in Georgia. Proto Rig allows for upgrading individual hashboards instead of replacing the entire machine, extending its lifespan from 3–5 years to over 10 years, reducing upgrade costs by 15–20%, and shortening repair times to just a few seconds thanks to its hot-swappable mechanism. The machine achieves a computational density 1.5 times higher than traditional ASICs, with a maximum of 819 TH/s, consuming 12,000W, and an efficiency of 14.1 J/TH. Proto Fleet integrates monitoring, power adjustment, diagnostics, and maintenance into a single interface. This move comes as trade tensions impact the import of mining machines into America, forcing competitors like Bitmain to build domestic factories. Starting in late 2024, Block will make a strong push into Bitcoin mining and join the S&P 500 in July 2025.
